Matthew McConaughey Stars In Mud On Blu-ray And DVD Next Month
Matthew McConaughey’s recent theatrical vehicle, Mud, got big buzz even before it hit theaters, earning a shot at the Palme d'Or prize at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The film went on to score a 98% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and nabbed a short box office run. Although many people didn’t get to see the film when it was released theatrically, all that will soon be able to change thanks to Lionsgate Home Entertainment releasing the set on to Blu-ray and DVD on August 6.
The small town story tells of two boys named Ellis and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland and Tye Sheridan) who meet a mysterious man named Mud on a small island along the Mississippi River. Mud (McConaughey) is a fugitive hiding out from some people out to get him, but he’s also a man who is great at weaving words and gets the young men invested in a tale of bounty hunters, love, and great escapes. Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon also star in the drama and Witherspoon, in particular, is rocking a great haircut, which is obviously a reason to invest in this movie.
On a more serious note, McConaughey has been praised for his performance in the flick, which makes it fitting that he’s the star of the movie’s cover art. Beyond the pleasant-looking Blu-ray box, the film boasts an array of extras, including commentary from Jeff Nichols, who will likely talk about coming up with the concept way back in the day and having McConaughey in mind for the role while the project was being written. Additionally, a bunch of other featurettes will be available with the set, but there’s no way to tell at this juncture whether those extras will be short or chock full of information about the film.
The good news is that Blu-ray and DVD sets will all come with the same extras, but if that still fails to impress you, it’s perfectly alright. Lionsgate Home Entertainment is also releasing Mud early via electronic sell-through outlets, so if you’d rather just purchase a copy that’s easier to store, you’ll be able to do so beginning on July 23, which is a whopping two weeks before the hard copies of the film are released. Just in case you are still thinking about that Blu-ray, however, you can check out the full list of extras, below, or pre-order the set over at Amazon.
