Mekhi Phifer Serves Hard Time
Affable actor Mekhi Phifer has spent several seasons helping sick people on “ER,” but now he is ready to get his hands dirty in a different way. He has signed on to star in the corrupt indie flick Ego, written and directed by Antonio Macia. Instead of dealing with hospital beds and wounded patients, Phifer is taking a wrong turn into a life of crime.
According to Production Weekly, he will star opposite rapper/actress Eve (who seems to be acting a lot more lately than rapping), and actor Vincent Laresca. The oddly-titled Ego is about an angry cop who seeks revenge on the newly-paroled ex-con (Phifer) who murdered his daddy. After the ex-con receives more bullying than he can handle and dies tragically, the cop is left to live with what he’s done.
If that’s not bad enough, the film fast-forwards 15 years later where the cop is still dealing with the consequences, along with a whole new set of issues. Sounds like the kind of holly, jolly flick that you want to bring the whole family to after a rough day at the office. Shooting kicks off in late November in Connecticut.
