Melissa McCarthy is on fire. Seriously, someone douse her in ranch dressing because the woman is hot right now. Still glowing from her breakout performance in Bridesmaids, an Emmy win for her role on CBS’ Mike & Molly and more recently hosting the funniest episode of Saturday Night Live this season, it’s evident that McCarthy is having a good year. What’s on the horizon for her? Quite possibly a starring role in New Line’s Tammy.

Described by the Hollywood Reporter as a “raunchy comedy,” which also happens to be co-written by McCarthy, Tammy follows an overweight woman who loses her job and finds out her husband is cheating. This prompts her to take a road trip with her grandmother, who is described as an alcoholic, foul-mouthed diabetic. The comedy has been acquired by New Line, with McCarthy on board to executive produce and possibly star.

As the Reporter points out, McCarthy is also in the process of negotiating to star opposite Jason Bateman in Identity Thief, and working with Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids) to co-write a movie for Paramount, which would have McCarthy playing a woman who tries to hijack the Stanley Cup to cheer up her sick husband. And then there’s the Judd Apatow Knocked Up spin-off, and Paul Feig’s Dumb Jock, both of which are said to include appearances by McCarthy. Needless to say, she’s everywhere lately and will be for a while, rightfully so. But Tammy sounds like fun. Hopefully things works out and she ends up snagging the lead.
