Michael Pitt And Nina Arianda Headline Rob The Mob
With the American Film Market just around the corner, there's been a flood of new projects making headlines, the latest of which is the crime thriller Rob The Mob. Based on a true story, the film focuses on a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde who decide to hit the pockets of some of New York City's most notorious mobsters. While their plan is to knock over some criminal-run underground clubs, their heists lead them to something much bigger than they anticipated, inciting not just the mob but also the FBI and their own families to join the hunt to track them down.
Deadline reports Raymond De Felitta, who has helmed such NYC-set features as City Island and Café Society, will direct Rob The Mob, which was penned by Jonathan Fernandez. Boardwalk Empire's Michael Pitt will produce as well as front the feature opposite rising star Nina Arianda, who won major acclaim including a Tony Award for her scintillating performance in David Ives' Broadway play Venus In Fur.
While Pitt is an established actor in gritty efforts—from Hedwig and the Angry Inch to the English-language version of Michael Haneke's Funny Games—Arianda only broke into film in 2011 with a supporting role in Tom McCarthy's charming dramedy Win Win. Shortly thereafter she appeared in Vera Farmiga's directorial debut Higher Ground and Woody Allen's Oscar-winning romance Midnight in Paris. Then, just last week she appeared as Jack's Pokemonning girlfriend Zarina on 30 Rock.
However, Rob The Mob marks a major advancement for Arianda's film career since she'll be shouldering the feature side-by-side with Pitt. This might soften the blow that Roman Polanski opted to cast his wife in his upcoming adaptation of Venus In Fur, instead of allowing Arianda to reprise the role she originated. There's no word on when Rob The Mob might roll into production, so its unclear if Arianda will shoot this before the year's out, or after Joplin, in which she'll star as the iconic but tragic figure, that is expected to shoot early next year.
