Michael Sheen Talks Underworld 3
Michael Sheen has been a busy little bee these days with no less than three projects up in the air, and that's just on the big screen. In an interview with Coming Soon about his current PR child The Queen, in which he plays British PM Tony Blair, CS took the opportunity to squeeze for a little fanboy juice. Here's what they came up with regarding that Underworld 3 prequel we told you about a while back.
When asked if he'd like to go back and play Lucian he said, " Oh, yeah, absolutely! I love playing that character. It's great, and I'm always amazed by how popular the character is with people who are into that sort of genre thing. He addds, "It's an incredibly popular character, so I think the idea is that we're trying to work out the whole idea of doing a third film. It would be a prequel and it would be about Lucian, the third film. Hopefully, we'll get that together.
So the third film sounds like it centers on the character of Lucian, which is at least in the realm of good news, seeing as he was probably the only interesting thing on screen when you couldn't see Kate Beckinsale in her quasi-dominatrix get-up. He actually appeared to be able to act, and had one of the film's more interesting story arcs. But how long can this go on?
The first film offered a fantastic premise with a reasonable production value but completley fell short of the "Vampires... & Werewolves... & Beckinsale... Oh my!" moniker that it was selling itself by. Still, after seeing it I wanted to at least give them a chance to do better. I shouldn't have. Let's not even talk about the sequel.
The whole thing reeks of floppage if you ask me but, if they are intent on telling this story, why not move to a lower yield medium like comics/T.V. even? I might even be mildly interested in an Underworld T.V. show, which is more than I can say for a prequel. Len Wiseman should just quit before it get's any worse. A prequel is two films too far.
