Mickey Rourke is somehow still doing press for The Wrestler, even though I had sworn that he'd said everything possible about the whole thing during the marathon Oscar season. But in an interview timed to The Wrestler's UK DVD release, Rourke also told The Guardian a bit about his role in Iron Man 2-- including the Russian he's learning to speak.
Explaining that he spent three hours a day for two weeks learning Russian, Rourke sounded out one of the lines uttered by his character Ivan, a.k.a. Whiplash. The transcription really just makes you wish you could hear it yourself. " Let me see, it's sort of like... 'Yezzamee menya... Yezzamee manya obott... Er, nemaboootty menya [...] It means, 'If someone kills me, don't wake me up, because I'd rather be dead than live in your world."
Sounds like a pretty appropriate villain line, right? Hopefully Rourke's dialect coach is still working with him to keep the Russian sounding appropriate and make him a worthy villain for Robert Downey Jr.'s guy in the metal suit. I mean, let's face it, Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane was good, but not entirely up to snuff. Bring us the goods, Mickey!
