There is a great line in Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters where Max Von Sydow says “If Jesus came back and saw what's going on in His name, He'd never stop throwing up. Something tells me that particular scene will not be one of those available on WingClips.com, a website dedicated to providing churches and other non-profits with inspirational movie clips.
I’m not sure why churches wouldn’t be able to operate the pause button on their DVD players if they wanted to use clips during teaching or sermons, but it says in the Bible that ours is not to reason why. That’s in the Bible, isn’t it? In the back somewhere, I think. WingClips is free if you want to search only some of the clips and get them in medium resolution. The Premium service is $12 a month and provides high resolution clips.
Although the home page of the site prominently displays movies like Nacho Libre, Bridge to Teribithia, and The World’s Fastest Indian, most of the clips generated under the free service are from films you (or at least I) have never heard of. There is a helpful list of “themes” on the site so if you are teaching about “anger”, “kindness” or “persecution” you can get a ready made list of clips that apply to that topic. So, the next time you head into the church, mosque, temple, or satanic house of your choice, don’t be surprised if you get a little multi-media teaching along with the holy writ.
