Mr. Show Makes Mr. Movie
Not many people know "Mr. Show", but the strange sketch comedy show from the mid-nineties has a hardcore group of fans, akin to the sort of support "The Kids in the Hall" used to get.
In a weird bit of news, it seems someone thinks the long defunct series (it was cancelled in 1998) has enough heat to warrant a movie. Moviehole picked up a story from the latest issue of Premiere in which "Mr. Show" co-star Bob Odenkirk hinted at a big screen venture for he and his partner David Cross.
"David [Cross] and I have a written a Mr Show movie", he says. "That’s really my kind of humour, and David and I are good friends and want to work together again. Hopefully, we’ll get to make the movie in the fall."
That fact that he's written a script doesn't mean there will be a movie. Who in Hollywood hasn't written a script for something? Odenkirk writing a script doesn't even separate him from your average hotel Valet in California. But with Tenacious D getting their own movie, maybe there's some sort of bizarre hunger for former late-night sketch comedy show duos to make their mark in theaters.
Of course Tenacious D is backed by Satan, I doubt "Mr. Show" has that.
