Muscles From Brussles Versus The Ponytail?

Everyone wants to see movies that combine franchises or pit action stars against one another, despite the fact that fans are almost always left disappointed when it happens. Director Mark Dippe is working on a movie that may finally satisfy this desire, however, with the bizarre concept of Van Damme vs. Segal.

Yes, you’re reading that right. The movie is about the washed out action stars of the ‘80s, going up against each other, although it’s not expected that either actor will actually be involved. The story puts Segal and Van Damme as Hollywood neighbors, stuck in a jealous rivalry. Think that episode of The Simpsons where Homer lives across the street from George Bush and they keep trying to one-up each other. The rivalry has to be put aside, however, when a nuclear threat forces the duo to team up.

The news comes from Moviehole, along with the assumption that the title actors probably won’t be in the picture. At the same time, I can’t imagine they won’t be involved somehow, since the movie will be spoofing them as people. Then again, it could be protected as a parody, so maybe the action stars won’t have to sign off on it.

While Dippe’s other projects haven’t exactly drawn my attention, especially the horrible Spawn film, I have to admit I’m intrigued by this, at least by the concept. He’ll really have to find some talented actors to take on Van Damme and Segal if he can’t get the real thing. Something tells me Will Sasso’s Segal impression won’t hold interest for a feature film.
