Mutants Get Punished

Let it be known that I’m a role-player. Yes, on top of being an out-and-out movie geek, I’ve spent the better part of my life involved in some sort of RPG (that’s Role Playing Game for you not in the know). From Dungeons & Dragons to Shadowrun, I’ve played a lot of games out there. So with that in mind I’m glad to announce Thomas Jane will be staring in an adaptation of The Mutant Chronicles for the big screen. King Kong who? Chronicles of Narnia what? Whose heard of those films compared to The Mutant Chronicles.

Actually, according to the “online resource” for The Mutant Chronicles (www.sebman.com), the game’s popularity was peak around 1993 when the game came out and was short lived, with the game being pulled just a few years later. Well, ‘93 was the peak of my gaming career as well, and I hate to admit it, but I’ve barely heard of the game. What does this mean? It means the movie isn’t going to have much of a built in audience. That may be a good thing since the gaming crowd probably is pretty jaded toward movie adaptations of RPGs by now. I mean, one can only take so many Dungeons & Dragons and Underworlds before those stories of violent gamers come true.

Thomas Jane hasn’t had much of an opportunity to prove himself outside of the horrible Punisher flick. I wish I could say I have high hopes for this to help his career, but something tells me Punisher 2 might look good after a movie based on a short lived RPG.
