Will Mystique Be Blue In X-Men: Apocalypse? Jennifer Lawrence Tells Us This
Next summer, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse will conclude an X-Men trilogy that began with First Class but then worked in several significant changes with Days of Future Past. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) traveled back in time to correct a devastating future. And in the process, he reset a timeline that will lead to many new changes for Apocalypse. But one major change will NOT affect Jennifer Lawrence. At least, not entirely.
Did you see the most recent trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse? Jennifer Lawrence is all over it, which makes sense, as her take on Raven/Mystique has been a major component of the latest trilogy. Except, in all of the scenes in the new trailer (shared below), Lawrence lacks her blue makeup, and I wondered if that was on purpose. So when I sat down with her for Joy recently, I asked her about Mystique’s look in Apocalypse, and she admitted:
When I pushed a bit to find out if Mystique was actually going to be a "good guy" in this sequel, or a leader (as is suggested in the new trailer), she deflected my advances as only Jennifer Lawrence can:
Damn. I tried!
Jennifer Lawrence wraps her turn as Mystique in X-Men: Apocalypse, but has left the door open to future stories. And why not? Her Hunger Games franchise has concluded. And co-star Hugh Jackman has proven that you can do numerous X-Men movies, so long as fans keep accepting the way that you play the part. I have a feeling that Mystique could continue to play a major part in future X-Men movies. But seeing as how the role had been recast already (and many classic characters are being recast in this new movie), maybe it will be another actress in the makeup chair for an upcoming film.
Here’s that X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, one more time:
The movie opens in May. Are you glad we’ll see a blue J-Law, if only for a few moments?
