Next Narnia Movie Delayed

The next “Chronicles of Narnia” book to make it to screen is supposed to be Prince Caspian, but fans eager to see more Aslan may have to wait a little longer than they thought.

The Hollywood Reporter says Prince Caspian has been pushed off its scheduled December 14, 2007 release date to a summer 2008 release. Disney doesn’t give any reason for the move, but the announcement came shortly after word that the fantasy fable The Water Horse will be released on December 8, 2007. Both Caspian and Water Horse are products of Walden Media. By moving Caspian Walden avoids competing with itself.

Despite the date move, there’s no reason to worry that Prince Caspian won’t get made. Narnia is a gigantic cash cow for Disney. It made hundreds of millions in theaters, and today Buena Vista Home Video announced that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe has sold more than 11 million copies on DVD. That makes it the top-selling DVD of 2006 so far, a title which it might well hold on to throughout the year.
