Nice Guys Finish First
Ed Zwick has produced some of the best short-lived series on television, including “My So-Called Life”, “Thirtysomething”, and “Once & Again”. His latest pilot for a new series called “Quarter Life” was not picked up by any television studios, further proving that there is just not enough room left for quality television. Who needs that when you can fill the airwaves with reality TV and C-list sitcoms?
At the very least, it seems that Zwick (Last Samurai) has better luck with movies. Variety reports that a comedy pitch by Zwick and Sheldon Turner called The Nice Guy has been picked up by Universal, in a six-figure preemptive purchase.
Zwick will produce the project with his Bedford Falls partners and Rick Solomon. He may direct the film written by Turner, but has not officially signed on yet. The Nice Guy is about a recently divorced doctor who is frustrated because women view him as nothing more than “marriage material.”
