Are you ready for the third casting announcement about X-Men: First Class in under 24 hours? Deadline is reporting that Oliver Platt has joined the cast of the superhero prequel, just after Rose Byrne signed on as Moira MacTaggert and Jason Flemyng was recruited as Azazel.

Platt will reportedly not be playing a mutant, and given that his character's name for now is The Man in Black and he's played by Oliver Platt, there's pretty much zero chance he won't be playing a villain. It surprises me that anyone is willing to go with the standard villain name The Man in Black these days after Lost put their mark on it, but I'm willing to go with Oliver Platt pretty much anywhere-- yes, that includes 2012-- so I'll let it slide for now.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are leading the cast as Professor X and Magneto, respectively, and you may also remember that Kevin Bacon has signed on to play a villain, which hopefully means he and Platt will spend some time cackling together. Production on First Class starts later this month, so get ready for those paparazzi shots of everyone in costume to start rolling in around Labor Day.
