One Sheet Wonders
Posters exist for movies that are coming out some time soon. We have them. We keep them to ourselves, but take pictures of them to prove to you that they actually exist. Then I make fun of them. Huge slate of posters this week... some of them good, some of them Wayans.
The most exrpessive face in dogdom doesn't look any happier about his return than I am. I jumped off of the Benji bandwagon, some time after Benji the Hunted, but never once did I contemplate the expressiveness of Benji's face. This time, I guess we get to find out how Benji got filthy stinking rich in Benji Returns. Nothing I like better than watching a movie about animals who are more successful than me.
Anyone remember that movie where Whoopi dressed up as an old white man? Or how about the movie where Chris Rock possessed the body of an old, rich, white guy? Doubling the number of faux white folks and putting them in skirts won't make White Chicks any more memorable than those flicks. It may however make it more painful. At least the poster is um... honest.
If all the women in Stepford Wives look like this, then I've gotta find out their secret. If only the Wayans looked like this when they put on a dress. Or maybe that would only be worse.
There were a ton of new Harry Potter character posters released, but I'm only going to highlight this one. The rest were pretty uninspired retreads of the posters I showed you last week. This one however is pretty brilliant. Granted, I haven't read the third Harry Potter book, but this poster gives me hope that the movie may have been produced by the same guys that did "Bumfights" on the internet awhile back. Or maybe this is just that prisoner guy they keep mentioning in the title.
Last week I showed you the Japanese version of this poster, but this one is better. Less robot centric and more of a nearly Pitch Black feel. Its doubtful that Riddick will really have all that much in common with its lower budget predecessor beyond a returning character, but I like that in the marketing materials at least, they've had the sense to harken back to Pitch Black's style.
I saved the best for last. The Passion has done something positive. It's heralded the resurrection of a true Jesus classic, Monty Python's Life of Brian. Like any good messiah figure (or guy that was born the next manger over from the messiah) Brian is back for another round with a spectacular 25th anniversary re-release in theaters on April 30. The poster's unusually snazzy for a Python production, which bodes well for the work they've done remastering it.
