Oscar Winning Composer Michael Giacchino To Score Jupiter Ascending
Composer Michael Giacchino is no stranger to the sci-fi genre. Over the course of his long career he has done the music for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, John Carter, Super 8, and the television show Fringe. And now he's ready to add another project to his docket.
We still haven't heard what he has planned for Star Trek Into Darkness, but Giacchino is now attached to compose the music for the new Wachowski sibling film Jupiter Ascending. The news comes from FilmMusicReporter.com, which notes that the film's impressive cast includes Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, and Sean Bean. The movie has been confirmed to be made for IMAX 3D, though it doesn't have a release date yet.
The film will be written, directed and produced by Andy and Lana Wachowski and is a science-fiction/adventure tale that questions what it would be like if humanity was on the lowest rung of the evolutionary ladder. Kunis will star as a maid who is forced to go on the run when she is said to be a threat to the Queen of the Universe, and Tatum will play the alien bounty hunter chasing after her.
Giacchino, who took home the Academy Award for Up in 2009, is best known for his associations with both Pixar and Bad Robot. This project doesn't entirely take him out of his comfort zone, however, as he also wrote the music for the Wachowski's Speed Racer. You'll be able to hear his new music when the Star Trek sequel arrives in theaters on May 17th.
