Pacino Enters The Ocean
Just when you thought the names couldn’t get any bigger, they keep pulling more in.
The Ocean’s franchise has always been known for its star power. After all, when you have a movie with major talents of several generations like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Carl Reiner, and Elliott Gould, you can pretty much do anything you want. This was pretty much proven with Ocean’s 12 as the cast had a great time making the movie as they gallivanted around Europe, but audiences had a less enjoyable time watching the film.
If those names aren’t enough for you however, now we have more. Warner Brothers confirmed today that Al Pacino is joining the cast for the third outing, Ocean’s 13. Pacino will play Willie Banks, the owner of a Vegas hotel/casino. This news actually confirms a rumor that had been going around since April.
Plot details have still been pretty rare on Ocean’s 13, but the rumors have been spread from the possible addition of Sacha Baron Cohen as “an oddball character” to the removal of Brad Pitt from the cast (thankfully denied). Even the press release Warner Brothers released to Moviehole seems tight on details, but states the movie is expected to begin principle photography July 21st, 2006…almost a month ago. It’s probably not too much of a stretch to guess the casino run by Pacino is in competition with Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), with one of the two using Danny Ocean and his group of thieves to get a leg up on the competition.
I really enjoyed Ocean’s 11 and still consider it one of my favorite heist flicks. Ocean’s 12 disappointed me though. Here’s hoping the third time is the charm for this franchise.
