Pacino Swims In Ocean's 13
I've gotta admit I've never had much use for The Ocean series. They're too light weight and frothy, making To Catch A Thief look like The Long Good Friday. To be quite frank aside from giving the terminally underated Andy Garcia something to do they might as well have just shot two hours of George Clooney and Co. winking at the camera. It'd have been more honest.
But there may be hope. According to Moviehole Al Pacino has been cast as a casino owner in Ocean's 13.
I have to admit, this peaks my interest. There's no logical reason for it. As I said I have nothing but contempt for the series and aside from Insomnia Pacino hasn't done anything lately that's been any good. Unless you have Gigli, Sim0ne, The Recruit, and Two For The Money enshrined on your DVD shelf. If this is so you have much bigger problems than a crappy tastes in film.
But the idea of these jokey thieves going up against a real live terrifying gangster has promise, and all joking aside Pacino has a pretty sterling record in this area. Still this is all just conjuncture at this point. The role Pacino is playing has been described only as a Casino Owner. There's no guarentee he's the bad guy. And even if he is playing the bad guy there's no guarentee Soderbergh will have him play the bad guy right. Still, there's always the hope that we'll see Danny Ocean have that smug smile wiped off with a chainsaw to the cranium.
