Paradise Lost Is Revisited

It looks like “Paradise Lost” isn’t so lost after all.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Milton’s classic literary tale is being developed by Legendary Pictures into a live-action film. This new-and-improved edition will be written by Byron Willinger and Phil DeBlasi, with additional writing help from Stuart Hazeldine. Scott Derrickson (Exorcism of Emily Rose) is set to direct the movie, and will also help develop the screenplay.

Milton’s epic poem, written in 1667, is a mixed bag of apocalyptic doom and moral dilemmas. It revolves around the fall of man and the classic battle of good vs. evil, while also touching on the stories of Satan/Lucifer, the angel who tries to overthrow God, and the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. We all know how that one turned out.

With four writers on board, we can only hope they’ll find a way to really do the material justice. No release date is set yet. Thomas Tull of Legendary Pictures says: "Given the gravity of the source material, it's really important to get it right. It will be ready when it's ready."
