Paul Greengrass Directing Real Pirate Of The Caribbean Movie
The Blackbeard movie we heard about earlier this summer here may have found a director. And not just any director, Paul Badass Greengrass.
Greengrass is perhaps the most underrated director on the planet. He’s been responsible for some of the very best films of the past few years. The guy deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with hot commodities like Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro. For some reason, he isn’t, and that’s a crime against society. Did you see United 93? Fucking earthshaking. Did you see The Bourne Ultimatum? It only redefined everything about the action genre for the decades to come. Greengrass is kickass, and if anyone can erase the stain of piratical mediocrity left on the life at sea genre by those increasingly bloated, CGI infested Pirates of the Caribbean movies then its Paul Badass Greengrass.
The rumor of Paul’s involvement comes from a site called Mania.com where they say DreamWorks is pushing the film forward with Greengrass in charge. The only thing that could get in the way of this rumor is Paul’s already loaded schedule. He’s just finishing up work on Green Zone, and the director already has three other films lined up and in varying stages of pre-production. Where will he find the time to rape and pillage?
Blackbeard will be based on the real life story of the infamous pirate Blackbeard, aka Edward Teach. Teach fought in the British Royal Navy against the Spanish. When the war was over, Teach took his ship and turned to a life of piracy.
