People Like Us Is Getting An October Blu-ray Release
In recent years, Dreamworks has become known for popping out some pretty incredible animated fodder. However, some of the studio’s recent live action fodder has failed to connect with the box office crowd. Though People Like Us only cost around $16 million to make, it never managed to make back its budget in theaters, a problem the studio would probably like to rectify with the film’s October 2 Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release.
Granted, dramatic and emotional family sagas can be a tough sell at the box office, especially if no one is fighting off cancer or escaping rehab to attend a wedding. People Like Us, a film that followed a young man who realizes he has a sister only after his father dies, had some decent names to back it up, including Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks (who should have been capitalizing on her post-Hunger Games success). Still, the marketing for the film was kind of vague, and Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer’s roles were barely blips on anyone’s radar. Clearly, there were some problems with the advertising, but for fans who sought out and enjoyed the movie, the Blu-ray set for the Dreamworks flick offers some insight into the creation of the film, as well as plenty of commentary.
People Like Us was inspired by true events, and one of the extras, “Number One with a Bullet will let fans learn the facts. Unfortunately, if you nab a DVD copy of this one, you’ll miss out on the true story segment, as well as a few of the other prominent featurettes. You will get a couple of the audio commentaries with the DVD, so if you’re not really a bonus features sort of person, that may be your best bet. If not, the Blu-ray and, surprisingly, the digital copies of the film will come with a slew of extras.
