Peter Segal Gets Smart
Remember the TV sitcom classic "Get Smart", about wacky secret agents? Yeah, me neither. I got a later start to watching TV than a lot of folks. The movie based on the TV show I've never seen is coming soon to a theater near you.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures has been trying to bring "Get Smart" to the big screen for a long time running. Finally, they have landed director Peter Segal (50 First Dates) and TV showrunners Tom Astle and Matt Ember to adapt it.
The selling point is that Steve Carell will play contemporary Maxwell Smart. And let's face it, Carell is a hoot. I would gladly watch him pull dill pickles out of a jar. The film adaptation will deal with their spy agency, CONTROL, falling on hard times. The government just won't give them the kind of love that the C.I.A. gets. Madness, quirkiness, and silliness are likely to ensue.
