Peter Segal Helms Shazam!
Director Peter Segal has worked on several movies with buddy Adam Sandler, including 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and Anger Management. It looks like he is going to take a little breather, and visit the wonderful world of superheroes.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Segal has signed on to direct Shazam!, not to be confused with the Shaq comedy Kazaam! that is probably best forgotten. Shazam! is an adaptation of a DC Comic book series featuring Captain Marvel, which will be released by New Line Cinema.
The comic series revolved around young Billy Batson, who uttered the magical word “Shazam!” and became the superhero known as Captain Marvel. The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world, including their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.
Segal is currently working on the big-screen adaptation of “Get Smart”, starring comedic golden boy Steve Carell.
