Pirates Place Bounty

Our underworld connections aren’t what they once were at CB, but Brian Cleveland seems to be pretty hooked in. Here he is with the latest on British movie mafia activity. Apparently they’re obsessed with Bridget Jones, which doesn’t exactly make sense.

Something that is clear to see is that there has been a huge increase in movie piracy and it now appears that no movie is safe, especially ones still in production. No, you can't see the new Star Wars trailer yet, nor has the Indy script been stolen. For some damn reason, a group of pirates in the UK are willing to pay $10 million for a copy of the Bridget Jones sequel.

According to the BBC, security around the movie has received a huge boost and they have even hired a group of risk consultants to protect the film from leaking. The DVDs that pirates are able to produce these days are of an amazing quality compared to the crap you download off of the internet and they are becoming especially popular on the other side of the Atlantic.

Sure, the original movie made an impressive $254.4 million, but this is very strange news. Drugs, racketeering, terrorism, and now movies? Arr matey, what is the world coming to! - Brian Cleveland

This is really bizarre news. I don’t think up till now any of us really understood that organized crime was actually this heavily involved in pirating. Also amazing is that Bridget Jones made $250 million! How’d I miss that?

If you’re buying pirated movies though, get a clue. Have some patience and wait like the rest of us to see it in its own time. Evidently if you don’t you’re supporting organized crime and I doubt any of us want to line the pockets of Al Capone.
