New Posters Spotted For Stone's W

I’ve been curious to see what direction Oliver Stone decides to take the ad campaign for his upcoming biopic, W. There are plenty of ways to push the movie, but if it’s not a parody or a spoof, the marketing options become more limited. How do you promote a movie that you want people to take seriously enough to come see? The first trailer just showed us the primary players, but not much else. Now a few posters have appeared online, with an interesting approach.

FilmSchoolRejects were sent a photo of some posters seen in Denver by one of their readers. The posters feature Josh Brolin as Dubya, sitting at his desk in the Oval Office. In one shot he has his feet propped up on the desk and actually looks lost in thought. In another one he just looks frustrated, his head down on the desk, partially covered by his hands.

That second shot is about a step away from doing a “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” gag with Bush, which might actually not be a bad idea - again, if this was a parody or a spoof. Since Stone wants people to take his picture seriously, however, that may be the closest we get to that sort of thing.
