Imagine the disappointment of guys who walk into a movie called Pros and realize too late that it’s not about “those” pros. It’s a comedy about tennis players. That’s gonna make for some un-happy viewers, lemme tell you. Universal Pictures hopes that they don’t become un-happy until after plunking down the $10.50 for a ticket.
The script for Pros, which doesn’t yet have a star or a director was written by Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory. Although you’ve never heard of them, they have written for some damn good television shows including Letterman, “The Larry Sanders Show,” “Frasier,” and “King of the Hill.” They don’t have much in the way of movie success, but everyone has to start somewhere, and the credentials look pretty good.
The plot, as explained by the Hollywood Reporter, doesn’t look as good. Following the destruction of the local YMCA courts by a fire, a not-rich YMCA tennis pro and his students gain the use of the courts at a local country club. This puts the pro in conflict with the rich country club pro. No further details are out but the country club pro is probably a dick. Also, when the local kids get to use the country club pool, one of them will drop a Baby Ruth in the water. I made that last part up.
