Variety is reporting that Shrek 2 scene stealer Puss-in-Boots is on his way to a spin-off, with Antonio Banderas returning to voice the character. DreamWorks has hired Ed Decter and John Strauss to churn out a script, no doubt at low cost and with great speed, since right now it looks like the cash in will be headed straight to video… Disney style.
Direct to video probably also means two dimensional animation, I imagine somewhat on par with what Disney did in those horrible “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” cartoons. Personally, given the choice I’d rather see Pinocchio get a spin-off, maybe something about him going off to become a thong wearing cabaret dancer. Just what the kids need to shore up the old moral fiber. Puppets in Lingerie.
