Rashida Jones Cast In Dramedy Decoding Annie Parker
If you've been watching Parks & Recreation the way I and a jillion other people have been telling you for months, you may notice that Rashida Jones's character Ann Perkins is doing a little bit of floating right now. She's still got great comic timing playing the timid, friendly, maybe unrealistically insecure nurse, but Jones never really fits into the main plot threads of the show, instead popping up to support Amy Poehler's Leslie (as with the Pawnee Goddesses episode a few weeks ago) or spark up what might turn out to be a strange sexual tension with Ron Swanson (what a Halloween!) But where another show might have written off Ann the moment the pit got filled in, Jones has stuck around, and that at least has to say something about Jones's talents and likability onset.
Something else that speaks well of her is the fact that she's constantly signing on for movie projects on the side, and has just added another to the list. THR reports that Jones has joined the cast of Decoding Annie Parker, a comedic drama based on the true story of Mary Claire King, who discovered a genetic link to breast cancer. Helen Hunt is playing King, with Samantha Morton as the titular Annie Parker, a woman who fights her breast cancer diagnosis. Jones will play one of Annie Parker's friends.
If that trio of ladies sounds appealing to you, the supporting cast only makes it better-- Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, Midnight in Paris breakout star Corey Stoll (he played the macho Hemingway) and Lost's Maggie Grace round things out. Steven Bernstein is directing the film that is already shooting in Los Angeles. Sure, the breast cancer focus and the female-heavy cast makes it sound like it could be some Lifetime-level weepy nonsense, but I trust that you don't attract a cast like this without something good up your sleeve.
