Ratner Says Conan Won't Be A Remake
It really sucks to be put in a position of taking Brett Ratner's word for anything, given that he's that director who destroys anything worth loving. But when it comes to the planned remake of Conan the Barbarian, even Ratner's promises are soothing, because we've got to have something to look forward to. So be wary when Ratner promises he won't tarnish our memory of the original Schwarzenegger movie, but also be grateful he's giving us hope.
Ratner told MTV Movies that his planned take on Conan won't be based on the movie, but going off the original legend. "The script is very cool, contemporary. It’s not an homage. It’s not a remake, really. It’s going back to the original source material — the mythology of the characters.”
He's still not saying exactly what he'll be doing on the movie, but admitted that he digs the screenplay by Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain, and might be convinced to direct after all. At this point I don't even think I want to fight the idea of him directing, since it seems almost a foregone conclusion. At least now we have slight reason to believe it won't be a complete travesty.
