There aren’t enough actresses in the world that can still read Woody Allen’s dialogue without sounding contrived and odd. Scarlet Johansson definitely isn’t one of them. Rebecca Hall is. Her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona as the uptight, traditional girl who lets herself go in Spain was one of my favorite performances of last year.
For her next project, Hall has signed on to play the lead in Richard Linklater’s road dramedy, Liars A-E. THR reports that she’ll play Bacall Loomis, a girl who heads out on a road trip to gather items from her past from boyfriends of her past. This will take place during Barack Obama’s inauguration. She’ll be acting along side Kat Dennings, who’s attached to play one of her friends.
The world is still waiting to see Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles, which had decent buzz at last year’s Toronto Film Festival but failed to get distribution until recently. That will be coming out on November 25, 2009. As for Hall, this seems like the perfect role for her. A mature woman setting out on a journey to revisit her past during one of the nation’s most historic moments? I’m all for it.
