Reeves Not Interested In Constantine 2
Last week put a theoretical lid on at least one successful franchise as actor Chris Evans told the press he thought the Fantastic Four movies were probably done. This week Keanu Reeves is saying pretty much the same thing about a Constantine sequel.
There has been a lot of talk since Reeves starred in the 2005 comic book adaptation about a follow up movie. Even a few months ago director Francis Lawrence said that it could still happen and was just dependent upon a decent script. Reeves told IESB during a Street Kings junket that he’s not really interested in revisiting the character, however. Actually, Reeves said he isn’t interested in revisiting any of his old characters, including “Ted” Theodore Logan.
With only one picture in the can, it wouldn’t be hard to recast the part of John Constantine if Lawrence wanted to move forward with the franchise. It isn’t like Reeves brought a ton of depth and characterization to the movie character, which felt more like an extension of The Matrix in Reeves’ hands than something derived from the comic book Hellblazer. I wouldn’t count a sequel completely out, but one with Reeves is probably not going to happen, which means it’s more likely any sequel would be direct to video without Reeves’ star power attached.
