Return Concert Booked For Alvin And The Chipmunks
I didn’t think Alvin and his chipmunk cohorts could provide enough substance for one movie, but the live action adaptation was successful enough that a sequel has been planned, and officially put on the books. Variety reports that Alvin, Simon, Theodore (and probably Dave) have been booked for March 19th, 2010.
You’d think with so many people doubting the power of the munchkin trio of musicians, Fox would be quicker to capitalize on their success. Two years is enough time for people to change their minds about Alvin and the Chipmunks. It’s even enough time for those who continue to love the movie to lose interest in seeing more adventures. After all, this is a movie marketed largely to children, and children grow up pretty quickly. Two years could make all the difference between treasure and trash.
The announcement from Fox only gave the movie’s intended release date and didn’t mention whether prominent cast members like Jason Lee or Justin Long would return for the sequel. With it being a theatrical sequel planned instead of a DVD, let’s hope they can hold on to some of the non-CG magic that helped the first movie work so well (could David Cross return for the second chapter as well?).
