A week or so ago, writer Peter David recommended Richard Dreyfuss for the part of Vice President Dick Cheney in Oliver Stone’s upcoming George W. Bush biopic. No, David doesn’t necessarily know Dreyfuss, Stone, or any of the involved parties. The comment came as a blog response to Entertainment Weekly’s recent article on the movie, stating ”Hell, he was halfway to Cheney back in The American President”.

So, imagine my surprise to see in today’s Hollywood Reporter that Dreyfuss is in final negotiations with Stone’s people to play the part of Dick Cheney. Way to pick that one out David!

Honestly, I can’t make a judgment on this one. I like Dreyfuss, and the casting seems like a good choice, but I haven’t seen The American President and I don’t know quite what Stone is up to in making this biopic. An ulterior agenda is almost guaranteed, and I don’t know if that might damage the ability of a pretty phenomenal cast the director is putting together here. Whatever it is, Stone is rushing production to try and make sure W enters theaters before Americans cast a vote for the next President, with an expected October release date and a SAG waiver already in place.
