The Rock Learns To Say Shazam!
With the way the whole movie career thing has been going for The Rock lately, it’s only a matter of time before he’s back on the wrestling circuit. His last few movies have either been flops or critical failures, or worse in most cases both. I’m really rooting for him to find something good. I like The Rock. The guy is genuinely talented as an action star and heck, he’s actually pretty funny too. But I don’t think this latest casting rumor is going to do much to help fix his career situation. Coming Soon says he might put on a pair of tights for a superhero movie.
They caught up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the set of Get Smart where he told them he’s been talking to director Peter Segal about working with him on a movie adaptation of the long forgotten comic book Shazam!. The comics started in the 1940s, and it’s the story of a boy named Billy Batson and his alter-ego, a heavily muscled superhero named Captain Marvel. “Shazam!” is the goofy catchphrase he has to shout in order to turn into Cap Marvel. Personally, I’ve never thought the character was all that great and on the list of superhero comics that need to get turned into a movie Shazaam! somewhere near the bottom next to Aqualad and Super Trucker. Will someone just make The Flash already?
Various people have been trying to get a Shazam! movie off the ground for awhile now and it’s never gone anywhere. The Rock has just talked to Segal about doing it, there’s nothing definite going on here. John August is supposed to be writing a script, and Rock say Segal is “very excited about the project and talks about it passionately,” which is nice, but doesn’t mean the film will ever see the light of day, much less with Rock wearing a lightning bolt on his chest.
