Rodriguez Remaking Clash Of The Titans?
We first heard Lawrence Kasdan was writing a remake version of Clash of the Titans a few months ago, and now Latino Review claims to have the scoop on who’s directing it. Actually, it’s one of those non-stories from a non-source. They got their information from an anonymous, untested source who says that this guy is on the studio’s want list. Which is to say he’s their pie in the sky guy and right now he has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. As for why we’re reporting vapor like this, well it’s interesting and besides, whenever we have a juicy little vapor rumor like this one to report other sites seem to like to pretend we don’t exist. LR may never pick up any of our scoops, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to give them the same treatment.
So, if you click over to them, you’ll find out they believe Robert Rodriguez may be the guy who ends up remaking Clash of the Titans.
It makes sense actually. Rodriguez has already shown an interest in remaking classic genre projects. At one point he was attached to direct The Jetsons as a live action movie, then there were rumors he was involved in Land of the Lost. More recently he is supposed to be making Barbarella, but word is there’s trouble in pre-production and he may end up dropping it or being dropped from it. That would leave him free to grab something else, and Clash of the Titans, in a strange way, fits pretty comfortably on a shelf with Jane Fonda’s classic sci-fi sex romp as genre material from a similar, bygone era.
For now though, it’s just a wild rumor. Even if it’s true, Rodriguez isn’t involved and he isn’t even in negotiations for the picture. The studio simply wants him. I want Jessica Biel in my bedroom, but instead I have to settle for her on DVD. Robert Rodriguez wanted Rose McGowan in his bed… and well he’s a famous director so he got that. Damn you Rodriguez. We all have wants, we’ll have wait to find out to which ones get satisfied.
UPDATE! - AICN claims to have talked to Rodriguez, who told them he was once interested in the project, but had to drop it due to scheduling conflicts caused by the WGA strike. Blame union/studio conflict for another one.
