Before Woody Allen came along, Roman Polanski was probably the most famous Hollywood statutory rapist around. To be fair, Roman was convicted while Woody got off (literally) with Soon-Yi, but both of them seem to meet the all-encompassing “sleaze bag” definition. Now Polanski will see his life, including the statutory rape charge, up on the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the Polanski biopic is now in the hands of Damian Chapa. Chapa will write, produce, direct, and have a role in the cleverly titled Polanski. If you haven’t heard of Chapa as a writer, producer, director, or actor, you are not alone. Even a review of his credits doesn’t ring many bells. He did direct a movie with Gary Busey, which would have been something back in 1977, but doesn’t mean so much today.
An actor scummy enough to portray Polanski has not been found, but shooting is planned to begin in January. The movie will focus not just on the statutory rape incident, but also Polanski’s start in Poland and the murder of his wife by the Manson Family.
