Ron Burgundy Now Has His Own Ben & Jerry's Flavor

Occasionally ice cream makers Ben & Jerry toast an icon of pop culture with a special limited edition flavor. Stephen Colbert had Americone Dream. Jimmy Fallon got Late Night Snack, and Tina Fey got a Greek frozen yogurt named for her 30 Rock heroine Liz Lemon. And now, San Diego news legend Ron Burgundy is dipping into this sweet honor with a flavor of his own called Scotchy Scotch Scotch. Seriously.

Inspired by Burgundy's professed love of scotch, Scotchy Scotch Scotch is a butterscotch ice cream with ribbons of butterscotch swirl. (No butterscotch chips?) In a press release, Burgundy endorsed the new flavor while pitching some others, saying:

“Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch is a delicious ice cream and I hope Ben and Jerry consider my other suggestions. Malt liquor marshmallow, well liquor bourbon peanut butter, and cheap white wine sherbet.”

This newsworthy new flavor was unveiled at a special event in New York City where Nutty the Watterskiing Squirrel performed, and a Channel 4 News truck served as a ice cream truck, spilling out blazer-sporting Ron Burgundy impersonators with samples in hand. Scotchy Scotch Scotch is now available in participating Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops, and will be rolled out into grocery stores in the coming weeks leading up to his return to the theaters in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

This inventive and tasty way to revel in the sequel's release can be credited in part to LeeAnne Stables, President of Consumer Products at Paramount Pictures, who clearly enjoyed her role in its creation. “Having Ben & Jerry’s celebrate the return of Ron Burgundy to the big screen with the introduction of this special ice cream is an exciting and delicious way to build anticipation for the film,” said Stables. “We especially enjoyed the sampling process over the last several months to find the perfect Scotchy scotch flavor.”

Lisa Sholk, Ben & Jerry’s Marketing Maven, urges fans of Burgundy and ice cream to share their experiences with Scotchy Scotch Scotch, “To help locate the flavor as it rolls out, we’re asking fans of Ben & Jerry’s and Anchorman to log onto www.benjerry.com and share when and where they were able to have a taste,” Sholk said. “We want fans to be able to experience it all first-hand, because as Ron says, this flavor is ‘kind of a big deal.’”

With the 70's behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) - All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking New York and the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell & Adam McKay. Directed by Adam McKay.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will open on December 20th.
