Rumors Of Aliens In The Avengers Remain Sketchy At Best

In the film industry, it's sometimes hard to differentiate between rumor and fact. An actor can say with absolute certainty that something is going to happen in or someone is going to be involved with a movie they are working on, that never actually pans out. It doesn't help the situation at all either when journalists take news as fact and run with it, even when there is no proof. That's exactly what happened with The Avengers story that broke this past weekend.

In a story about Joss Whedon's superhero team-up film moving the bulk of its production to New Mexico, the Albuquerque Journal reported that the film would have "the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree." The problem? There's nothing official about that statement. Coming Soon has learned that the information was not sent to the paper by Marvel Studios and was, instead a "research error on the part of the newspaper."

Without trying to sound like a smart ass, I had a feeling this was the case when the story first broke. First mention of the Skrulls and Kree being involved in The Avengers came out all the way back in May and was never confirmed or debunked by the studio. I also maintain that including the two alien races would be a monumentally stupid idea. As I explained the first time I wrote about this idea, including something as massive as the Skrull and Kree war would require an incredible amount of explanation that would take over the entire film. The biggest problem with Iron Man 2 was that they tried to jam far too much Marvel history into a short two hours. If they try and do that with The Avengers they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
