Ryan Phillippe Prepares For Battle
Ryan Phillippe finally got the break he needed, when he starred in the ensemble piece Crash which would later snag the Best Picture Oscar. On the same night of his collaborative achievement, his wife Reese Witherspoon won the Best Actress Oscar for Walking The Line. Now I am sure he was proud and happy for her, but there has to be at least the slightest pang of resentment brewing there. When will it finally be Ryan’s turn to truly stand out?
According to Hollywood Reporter, his time to shine may finally be arriving. He is currently in negotiations to star in the film Stop-Loss, directed by Kimberly Peirce. Her debut Boys Don’t Cry won Swank an Oscar and earned co-star Chloe Sevigny a nomination; if anyone can pull an excellent performance from Ryan, she may be up to the task.
Stop-Loss is about a soldier (Phillippe) who returns home to Texas, only to be called to duty again in Iraq through the military’s “stop-loss” procedure. Drama unfolds when the soldier refuses to return to battle. Abbie Cornish is playing the female lead in the movie, and Paramount is eyeing a late-summer start date.
