Twenty years ago, Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) and Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus) were on top of the proverbial Hollywood A-List. So it only seemed natural for them to combine forces (Down And Out In Beverly Hills), kind of like a late 80s Marc Anthony and Cleopatra. Thankfully, their partnership ended in comedic hilarity and not suicide by snake bite. Sadly, unlike Woody Allen (Annie Hall) and Mia Farrow (Hannah And Her Sisters), the two ended their epic, cinematic run at one film and amicably split ways. Until now.
According to Movie Hole, the long lost pair will reunite in a new Disney comedy entitled Lust For Life. Unlike Iggy Pop’s drug homage of the same name, this Lust probably won’t end up selling Carnival Cruises. The general plot outline will follow a humdrum senior citizen (Dreyfuss) who begins acting spontaneous and romantic. It’s like a geriatric American Beauty!
Life was penned by former ’Odd Man Out’ writer Jillian Tohber. It will be helmed by The Other Sister director Garry Marshall. I want to be excited about this, but for some reason, it gives me the same vibe as The Out-Of-Towners remake. And no, that’s not a compliment (sorry Steve Martin). I’ll hold off completely bashing this until the rest of the cast in place, but let’s just say I don’t have high hopes.
