Saw Cinematographer To Direct Adaptation Of Crawl To Me Graphic Novel
David A. Armstrong has filmed some pretty disgusting stuff in his career. Serving as a cinematographer on six of the seven Saw movies, he has let his lens take in images of decapitations, stabbings, burnings, and much, much more. Now, however, he is stepping into the directors chair and he may be able to put those experiences to good use.
Variety has learned that Armstrong has been hired to helm, Crawl to Me, a new comic book adaptation based on the work of authors Alan Robert, Jeff Mazzola and Chris White. Producers are currently looking for a writer for the project, which is about a family trapped in an isolated country town during a frigid winter that experiences a series of disturbing events. The project is actually one of two that Armstrong currently has in the works, as he is directing a film called Pawn, starring Michael Chiklis, Forest Whitaker, Nikki Reed, Sean Faris, Stephen Lang, Marton Csokas, Jessica Szohr and Jonathan Bennett. Crawl To Me was only recently released, but its first printing has already sold out, according to IDW Publishing. The are currently scheduling a second printing.
I haven't yet had a chance to pick up a copy of the book, but looking through the preview on the book's Amazon page, I must say that the art looks really cool. Armstrong has yet to be really tested as a director yet, so we'll have to see if he has the right stuff when Pawn is released next year.
