As a graduate of the same institution as Darren Lynn Bousman (Full Sail University), I’ve taken a bit of an interest in his work despite my unmitigated hatred of the Saw franchise, with the exception of part one. It wasn’t until Repo: The Genetic Opera that I realized that the 31-year-old director might be going somewhere.

With the Saw franchise in the hands of others now, and Repo touring the U.S. for midnight screenings, Bousman is looking to get another project going, and he has found it in numerological thriller 11:11:11. Taking bits from the Bible and bits of modern superstition, 11:11:11’s story will have us believe that on the 11th day of the 11th month, the 11th gate of Heaven will open, releasing an other worldly creature onto Earth for 49 minutes. What kind of creature will Heaven release? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Bousman and producer Wayne Rice cooked up the story together, according to THR, and Bousman is currently trudging through draft one. Rice had this to say about the project:

“He and I sat down and over some pasta, (and) the movie materialized. A lot of this has been New Age-y or biblical, with talk of angels. Leave it to Darren to see the dark side of that date.”

Not surprisingly, the release date is set for November 11th, 2011, or 11-11-11. A “marketer’s dream” as referred to by Rice. Let’s hope that the movie we get is a growth for Bousman as a director and a solid story, rather than just a gimmicky failure like fellow numerological tale The Number 23.
