Sawyer Competing With Someone Besides Jack For Once

Matthew Fox in Lost

I got a lot of flak in the comments section of an article the other day for calling Matthew Fox “the blandest actor on Lost.” I was surprised at how many people are devoted to Jack Shepherd, given that there's always Sawyer to drool over. And now, while Josh Holloway won't be starring in his own vigilante movie for Warner Bros. like Fox is, he will be taking a movie role that gives him yet another chance to prove why he's the most entertaining actor on Lost.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Holloway is joining the cast of Stay Cool, a comedy from writer-director brothers Mark and Michael Polish, about a successful author coming to terms with his high school memories. Holloway has been cast in a role pretty much perfect for him-- he's the ex-high school jock and ex-boyfriend to Scarlet (Winona Ryder), the unrequited crush that the author (Mark Polish) tries to reunite with when he returns to high school to give the commencement address. Now imagine if you were a nebbishy author going up against Holloway. Would you really think you had a chance?

The rest of the cast includes Hilary Duff, Jon Cryer, Sean Astin and Chevy Chase, which has to make it one of the weirder ensembles in recent memory. But who cares! Sawyer! Doing something other than running around a jungle and mooning over Kate! Maybe Holloway will be so good in the role I can stop automatically associating him with his TV character, but at the very least, it'll help fight those Lost cravings while the show is on one of its endless hiatuses.
