Sesame Street's Avengers Parody Is Adorable, Of Course
The biggest movie of the year (with the exception of that indie sci-fi Star Wars movie set to debut on December 18) will hit U.S. theaters this weekend, and Sesame Street is getting in on the fun. In the latest parody from Earth’s Mightiest Muppets, Cookie Monster and the gang revamp Avengers: Age of Ultron into the adorable, pro-eating-your-vegetables Aveggies: Age of Bon Bon. Watch it below!
Instead of Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk and Captain America, we get the veggie knock-off versions, like Onion Man, Captain Americauliflower and Black Bean Widow. Instead of the villainous Ultron, Age of Bon Bon features an alien supervillain hellbent on doing away with the world’s supply of healthy food. It’s up to the Aveggies to stop him from succeeding, but Dr. Brownie (played by Cookie Monster) is having a difficult time maintaining focus. He needs to "go green" in order to eat the giant cookie spaceships that are laying waste to the city, but he keeps getting sidetracked.
He first eats Captain Americauliflower’s shield, thinking it’s a cookie — and according to the star-spangled Aveggie, that’s the only thing that makes him special. Dr. Brownie tries to keep it together by talking to himself out loud, but he soon hallucinates The Mighty Corn’s hammer as a roasted marshmallow. Finally, when all seems lost, Dr. Brownie hulks out and devours that pesky invader. "That me secret," he says. "Me always hungry!" (A reference to Banner's "I'm always angry" line from The Avengers.)
Sesame Street has been killing it with its parodies, especially the ones for Game of Thrones (called Game of Chairs), House of Cards (House of Bricks), Homeland (Homelamb), Glee (Sesame Street: G) and 30 Rock (30 Rocks). But Age of Bon Bon is perfect, if only for its jab at Hawkeye. The character even pokes fun at himself in Age of Ultron, noting that all he has to defend himself against an army of robots are a bow and arrows. Sesame Street takes it further when Dr. Brownie states the obvious: "Cucumber’s cool. You zucchini!"
Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be one of the biggest movies of the year. It already opened overseas with impressive box office numbers, and it’s poised to do the same in the U.S. How could it not when it’s packin’ Ultron, Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, teases for Black Panther and the upcoming Infinity War, and larger roles for Hawkeye and Black Widow, who, as we see in the Sesame Street parody, are always getting the short end of the stick.
