Sin City Sequel Sets October 4, 2013 Release Date
We've been skeptical for years about the Sin City sequel that Robert Rodriguez has been promising pretty much ever since the first movie came out in 2005. But I'll be damned if he hasn't gone and proved us wrong in the end. After a lot of recent rumors about bringing Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson back into the fold, Sin City 2-- with the official name Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For-- has officially announced it's going into production this summer, with a release date scheduled for October 4, 2014.
Rourke and Jessica Alba are the only actors currently confirmed to return, both presumably reviving their roles as Marv and Nancy. The press release promises, though, that "some huge names" will fill in the rest of the cast, especially in roles from the Sin City universe that haven't yet been seen on the big screen.
Rodriguez and Frank Miller will once again be sharing directing credit, working from a script by The Departed writer William Monahan, which may be a good sign in and of itself-- Miller adapted his own comic books entirely for the screenplay to Sin City, and an experienced writer like Monahan might be able to apply a bit more movie structure this time around. With good comes bad, though-- A Dame To Kill For is also set for release in 3D, which is a little ironic when you consider how much effort the first film put into mimicking the flat panel 2D style of the original comic book.
Here's the full press release below. Hats off to you, Robert Rodriguez-- you just kicked sand in the face of skeptics like us who have doubted you all along.
