Snake To Escape Again?
If you’re one of the best mercenaries in the business and you’ve escaped from two of the largest cities in the United States, what’s next? Apparently escaping from the entire planet Earth. At least that’s what appears to be next for Snake Plissken, the antihero character created by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell.
According to an anonymous scooper at JoBlo.com, Carpenter and Russell attended a meeting with Paramount people last week discussing a third outing for Snake Plissken titled Escape From Earth. The movie would pick up where Escape From L.A. ended, with the world in darkness and, presumably, Snake attempting to get away.
If this project goes through it would be slated for a 2008 release. The source also reports the script has been around for eight years and recently came back into view when Russell theoretically demanded the film was made before he signed on for a three picture deal with Paramount.
I love the character of Snake Plissken, but he was poorly used in Escape From L.A. where it felt like he was a passive observer to the chaos around him instead of the active interferer he was in Escape from New York. Personally I’d rather see the series go back and show what happened with Snake in the often-referenced Cleveland incident, but just seeing a return of the character could be cool enough.
