Sony Falls Under The Curse
Zhang Yimou, the acclaimed director of such dazzling martial arts movies as Hero and House Of Flying Daggers, has a new project in the works. Even if these movies aren’t your cup of tea, there is no denying they are pleasing to the eye.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Classics has scored the North American and Latin American rights to Yimou’s new movie Curse of the Golden Flower, described as a martial-arts romantic drama. Chow Yun-Fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Gong Li (Memoirs of a Geisha) are starring in the feature, currently shooting in China.
The film follows the medieval saga of a royal family (king, queen, three sons) launching into power battles with each other. They’re just another dysfunctional family, except with more money and more power. "We feel 'Curse of the Golden Flower' will be a culmination of Zhang Yimou's great career", Sony reps told the press. At the very least, it will be fun watching more people fly through the sky yielding swords.
