Spider-Man: Homecoming Adds A One Life To Live Star In A Mystery Role
After taking part in Captain America: Civil War next month, Spider-Man will jump back into his regular life for Spider-Man: Homecoming next year. When he’s not webbing criminals, we’ll see what Peter Parker’s life is like in high school and around Queens, New York. This includes meeting the people in his life, and one of those folks will be played by One Life to Live star Laura Harrier.
Harrier’s character was described by The Wrap as "a significant role," but no other details were provided about her identity. This casting comes only a few days after it was reported that Michael Keaton is in talks to play Spider-Man: Homecoming’s villain. Besides Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, the movie’s cast also features Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as Michelle. Harrier is best known for her playing Destiny Evans on the soap opera One Life to Live.
If we had to guess, we’d say that Laura Harrier’s character is one of Peter Parker’s classmates, but that still doesn’t narrow down the possibilities much. The "significant" part of the report may indicate that she’s playing someone important from the Spider-Man mythology. Perhaps she’s playing Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy, two of the Wall-Crawler’s most well-known love interest. Other important ladies in Peter Parker’s life include Betty Brant and Liz Allan, the latter of whom was one of the popular girls at his high school during the early Spider-Man stories. It’s also possible Harrier’s playing an original character. While not common, the MCU has been known to throw in brand new folks into their stories from time to time. Either way, if she’s as important as we’re led to believe, expect her to play a key part in Spider-Man: Homecoming’s story.
As an added bonus, Deadline also revealed today that The Grand Budapest Hotel star Tony Revolori has been added to Spider-Man: Homecoming’s cast as Peter Parker’s classmate. The Wrap’s own coverage of Revolori’s casting names his character as Manuel, but there are conflicting reports about what this character’s relationship with Peter is. The Wrap labels him as a friend, while Deadline labels him as Peter’s "nemesis/enemy," though not to the point that he’ll become a super villain. Assuming his name really is Manuel, here we do have a case of an original character being included, so no looking to the source material to see what Revolori’s character is like. That said, if he wasn’t named that and was Peter’s enemy, one would wonder if he was playing Flash Thompson.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017. In the meantime, let us know what you think about Laura Harrier and Tony Revolori joining the cast in the comments below!
