The Spirit Has Eva Mendes
Frank Miller officially has the best job ever. He’s directing a movie adaptation of the Will Eisner comic The Spirit, and he’s stacking the cast with Hollywood’s sexiest starlets. Last week we learned that Scarlett Johansson had been cast in the film to play a sultry Femme Fatale. Now The Hollywood Reporter says Eva Mendes will show up to flaunt her sexuality as well.
The book and the movie are about a rookie cop who's resurrected from the dead and returns as a masked crime fighter. The character was popular in Sunday newspaper comic inserts back in the 40s and the movie should be a gritty looking noir. Scarlett will play a curvy, dangerous beauty named Silk N Floss while Eva brings The Spirit’s first love, a heartbreaker named Sand Saref, to life.
The Spirit will be Miller’s first solo-directorial outing. He co-directed Sin City with Robert Rodriguez, which should give you some idea of what you’re in for. Frankly, the comic sounds like a bore but Miller is making such great casting moves it’s hard not to be interested in whatever he ends up making out of it.
