Spring Breakers Gets An Odd New Poster And A Release Date
As strange as Harmony Korine's films are, the marketing for his latest, Spring Breakers, has actually been fairly logical and straightforward. All of the advertising art we've seen has paid particular focus not just to the bikini-clad starlets at the center of the plot, but also the film's cornrow-styled gangster version of James Franco. Finally, however, the ad campaign has taken the expected strange twist.
A brand new domestic poster for the crime comedy has arrived online, and unlike the international one-sheet that came out earlier this week - which featured all of the elements mentioned above - this one instead only features one bikini-clad starlet...and she's wearing a jacket and a balaclava. It's certainly much more in line with what we expect from Korine. Check it out below and head over to Vulture to see it full size.
And that's not the only bit of "new" we have about Spring Breakers. Vulture has also revealed that the movie has now officially received a release date and will be heading to theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 22nd before going nationwide on March 29th. The move means that the indie will be going up against G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Host and Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, so it's probably not expected that the movie will open at number one.
Spring Breakers stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Heather Morris as four college friends who decide to try and fund their spring break vacation by knocking over a resturant. Unfortuantely the plan doesn't work out as they hoped and they end up behind bars, but their situation changes when a violent drug dealer (Franco) bails them out and gets them to do some of his dirty work.
